A 39 year old Tennessee man is facing multiple charges after he drove his 18 wheeler through the Prospect development in Longmont, Colorado. The man is said to be responsible for taking out fences and trees while also hitting parked cars and homes.According to the Longmont Times-Call he is currently facing 17 counts each of leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report. He will likely also be charged with DUI and potentially a felony criminal mischief charge.
The man is said to have possibly gotten lost in the development and drove his truck (with trailer attached) through alleys and up streets, causing serious damage in his wake. Street signs, lampposts, and at least one large tree were all found in roadways after the incident.
The police are gathering cost estimates on property damage in order to recommend felony criminal mischief charges to the prosecutor. In order to qualify for a Class 4 felony, the damage must only be over $1,000. If the damage is found to be greater than $20,000, the man could face Class 3 felony charges and 4 to 12 years in prison.
Considering all of the charges against him, there is a good chance he will be serving some time.
According to the Longmont news article, his criminal record isn’t clean either—further increasing the chance that he won’t be let off easy. His record is said to feature past charges of driving on a suspended license, trespassing, possession of a firearm, vandalism, and several others.
